West Coast Kiwi Beer Gift
If you want to buy an interesting NZ West Coast beer try this excellent pale ale proudly named after Mr W.J.C. Kortegast, pioneer brewer owner of the Crown Brewing Company situated in a substantial building on Gibsons Quay, Hokitikia from 1865 until it burnt down in 1900.

He was a local hotelier who saw a business opportunity selling beer and alcohol to refresh the many travellers who waited on the quay for steamers or boats to get them upcoast and upriver into wild areas of gold prospecting, coal mining, marginal farming and other pioneer activities. Working in the vast expanse of frontier land, poor but self reliant people sought wealth and fortune through hard work and stickability.  Now, 150 yrs later, the west coast lifestyle, surrounded by five national parks, is fondly considered quirky, proud, stubborn but quite cultural and very worthwhile for tourists to experience!  This is a great gift for historians and West Coasters who will particularly enjoy this beer!
