“The Interesting Story of the 1772 Resolution and Adventure Medal”
L. Richard Smith of Wedgwood Press, Sydney, Australia who wrote this great little 36 page booklet kindly agreed to us customizing his work for NZ publication. It is just the most marvellousy factual and scholarly story that we found romantic and intriguing also. It speaks of button manufacturers making medals for the first time and sending them to Joseph Banks in London by stage coach in leather pouches and provides copies of not only the story of how the medal came about but also provides copies of invoices showing Joseph Banks’ hand-written annotations. This 36 page booklet is a mine of information and the imaginative artwork on the cover shows Dusky Bay, Fiordland finely executed by Patrick G. Hall of Lowburn, Cromwell, Central Otago, NZ. $10 each
