Contemporary Maori Traditional Costumes
Contemporary Maori costumes, known as Kakahu, are woven and hand made by a close extended Maori family (whanau) based on age old methods of traditional taniko weaving but using modern materials and fabrics to suit today’s lifestyle. We stock pre-school child size in puipui (skirt), screenprinted fabric pare (bodice), a plaited tipare (headband) and short poi to complete a modern interpretation of the Maori dress for a young Maori girl child or mokopuna. Other sized garments and a Korowai (cloak) to order.

Copper Tiki Pendant
Another really nice unisex pendant made of old, now defunct, New Zealand halfpenny coins which display a tiki (fertility) which have been beaten into a dome shape and two coins joined together with a looped fixture before being hung on an adustable leather thong. Quite unique and a lovely symbolic reminder of New Zealand. $40 each
